I use only high-quality, water-based face paints. They are made to wash off, but using the right method will make removal much quicker and gentler on the skin. Follow these simple steps to keep the face painting experience magical, even when it is time to wash it off!
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Do NOT start with water. Apply soap first
Create a rich, foamy lather in your hands using a soap and a small amount of water, then apply the foam directly to the painted skin. - Massage gently
Using your fingertips, gently massage the foam over the face paint. You’ll know it’s working when the lather becomes colourful and muddy. - Rinse with warm water
Rinse the skin thoroughly with warm water. You can also gently wipe away the soapy paint with a soft, damp cloth, but it’s best to rinse the skin afterward if possible. - Repeat if needed
Some colours may need a second gentle wash, and that’s completely normal. Please don’t scrub the skin or use alcohol-based products, as they may cause irritation. - Dry and moisturize
Gently pat the skin dry with a soft towel. Finish with a mild moisturizer, especially if the skin is dry or sensitive.
Removing Stubborn Colour
Some richly pigmented colours, particularly blue, red and green, may leave a faint, temporary tint on the skin. Don’t worry. This doesn’t mean the paint is permanent!
Apply a small amount of mild, unscented oil, such as coconut or olive oil, to the tinted area. Massage it gently to loosen the remaining colour, then wipe it away with a soft cloth or cotton pad. Finish by washing the area again with mild soap and warm water.
Take extra care around the eyelids. Keep soap and oil out of the eyes, and never scrub the delicate skin around them.
If a little colour remains, it should fade naturally. No hard scrubbing is needed!
